O you through whom my joy becomes misery,

and through whom the serenity of my life grows troubled—

you invented a grievance, searching—when you had tired

of me—for sins, yet could find none.

And what harm can my notoriety do you,

if your secret is never made public?

Is it from me you fear the tale will spread,

when I have more at stake in concealing it?
