يا أمين اللَه لا خطّةَ لي

يا أمين اللَه لا خطّةَ لي

ولقد أفردت صحبي بخطط

ولقد أفردت صحبي بخطط

O God's trusted one, I have no plot of land,

O God's trustee, I have no plan

yet you have singled out my companions for plots.

Yet I have singled out my friends with plans

أنا في دهياءَ من مظلمةٍ

أنا في دهياءَ من مظلمةٍ

تحمل الشيخ على كل غلط

تحمل الشيخ على كل غلط

I am in a dire plight born of injustice,

I am in the cunning of a dark one

which drives the old man into every misstep.

Who makes the old man commit every mistake

صعبة المسلك يرتاع لها

صعبة المسلك يرتاع لها

كلُّ من أصعدَ فيها وهبط

كلُّ من أصعدَ فيها وهبط

Its path is hard, and it terrifies

Difficult is the path that frightens

everyone who goes up and down within it.

Everyone who climbed and descended in it

بوني منك ما بوأتهم

بوني منك ما بوأتهم

عرصةً تبسط طرفي ما انبسط

عرصةً تبسط طرفي ما انبسط

Grant me what you granted them:

Grant me from You what You granted them

an open plot where my gaze may range as far as it can.

An open plain that spreads my hands that did not expand

أبتني فيها لنفسي موطنا

أبتني فيها لنفسي موطنا

ولعقبي فرطاً بعد فرط

ولعقبي فرطاً بعد فرط

There I would build a home for myself,

Build me in it a home for myself

and for my descendants, generation after generation.

And for my offspring a surplus after surplus

لم يزل منك قريباً مسكني

لم يزل منك قريباً مسكني

فأعد لي عادةَ القُربِ فقط

فأعد لي عادةَ القُربِ فقط

My dwelling has always been close to you;

My dwelling has not ceased being near You

so restore my accustomed closeness—nothing more.

So redo for me the habit of nearness only

كل من قربته مغتبطٌ

كل من قربته مغتبطٌ

ولمن أبعدت خزيٌ وسخط

ولمن أبعدت خزيٌ وسخط

Everyone you draw near is delighted,

Everyone you brought near is happy

and those you keep far away face disgrace and wrath.

And whoever you distanced, shame and wrath
