May God water the monastery's hollow, from the level ground at the slope's foot
God watered the monastery's belly from the gentle slope
To the confluence of the two rivers, then the tamarisks, then the acacias.
To the confluence of two rivers, through the tamarisk and sidr trees

ويَسَّرن ما أمَّلتُ من دَرَك النُّجحِ
Pleasure grounds that drove the heart by force to love,
The heart's homes compelled me, against my will, to passion
And made easy the attainment of the success I hoped for.
And facilitated what I hoped for, of attaining success
أتنسىdo you forget? فلاyet not أنسىI forget عتابَكyour reproaching بينهاamong them

حَبيبَكyour beloved حتىuntil انقادhe yielded عَفواًwillingly الىto الصُّلحِreconciliation
حَبيبَك حتى انقاد عَفواً الى الصُّلحِ
Do you forget? Yet I do not forget how, there, you reproached
Can I forget your reproach among them?
Your beloved, until he willingly yielded to reconciliation.
Your beloved, until he is led, forgivingly, to reconciliation
سَمَحتI gave generously لمنto the one whom أهوىI love بصفوِwith the purity of مودَّتيmy affection
سَمَحت لمن أهوى بصفوِ مودَّتي
ولكنَّand yet منthe one whom أهواهِI love him صِيغَwas fashioned علىupon الشُّحِّstinginess
ولكنَّ من أهواهِ صِيغَ على الشُّحِّ
I freely gave my pure affection to the one I love,
You allowed whom I loved the choicest of my affection
But the one I love was fashioned to be miserly.
But whom I loved was molded by stinginess
