سقياً لزَورٍ من طيفٍ مُحتَجِبِ
عاتبتهI reproached him فيin المنامِthe dream فاعتذَراso he apologized
عاتبته في المنامِ فاعتذَرا
May rain bless a visit from a veiled phantom!
I reproached him in a dream, so he apologized.
فزالَso vanished حِقدُrancor الضميرِthe heart عنfrom سَكَنٍa beloved
فزالَ حِقدُ الضميرِ عن سَكَنٍ
يُسخطُنيhe angers me رائحاًin the evening ومبتَكراand early in the morning
يُسخطُني رائحاً ومبتَكرا
So my heart was rid of rancor toward a beloved
who angers me evening and early morning.
رضيتُI was content منfrom عُذرِthe excuse of منone who أقامpersisted
رضيتُ من عُذرِ من أقام
علىin الذنبِwrongdoing بطيفٍwith a phantom ألَمَّcame visiting مُعتَذِراapologizing
على الذنبِ بطيفٍ ألَمَّ مُعتَذِرا
I accepted, as an excuse from one who persisted
in wrongdoing, a phantom that came apologizing.
