سألونا أن كيف نحن فقلنا

من هوى نجمه فكيف يكونُ

نحن قومٌ أصابنا حدثُ الده

رِ فظلنا لريبه نستكينُ

We are a people struck by a calamity of

Time, so we remained meek before its vicissitudes.

نتمنى من الأمين إياباً

لهفَ نفسي وأين مني الأمينُ

We yearn for al-Amin's return.

Alas for my soul—and how far al-Amin is from me!
