A greeting to Samarra and al-Masif,
Greetings of summertime and a secret vow
all-embracing, from one enamored of them both.
Adorned with the love of them both

Ah, is there a return for one longing in Baghdad
Oh longing one in Baghdad, is there no return
that brings him near the shade and shelter of them both?
That brings me closer to their shade and homes

Two abodes—God granted the best of His servants
Two righteous souls chosen by God
a wise resolve concerning them, and so he chose them both.
With resolve and faith in their hearts

And say to Baghdad, you two, whenever she breathes
Say to Baghdad when the breeze blows
over Baghdad's people: may you be a ransom for them both!
May you ransom those people of Baghdad

أفي بعض يومٍ شفَّ عيني بالقذا

حروركِ حتى رابني ناظراهُما
In just part of a day, were my two eyes afflicted with grit
Will I someday heal my eyes with seeing
by your scorching wind, until their pupils troubled me?
Your visage, as I long to see you both
