If you wish to find a sullen friend

though his two grandfathers among those of old are Kaʿb and Hatim,

Like Ka'b and Hatem of the past

فحاوله عمَّا في يديه فإنَّما

فحاوله عمَّا في يديه فإنَّما

تكشف أخلاقَ الرجالِ الدراهمُ

تكشف أخلاقَ الرجالِ الدراهمُ

then ask him for what is in his hands, for only

Try taking what's in his hand, for
