أدرِpass around الكأسَthe cup عليناto us
أيهاO الساقيcupbearer لنطربlet us revel
Pass the cup around to us,
Turn the cup upon us,
O cupbearer, let us revel.
O cupbearer, that we may sing;
ماnot ترىyou see الليلthe night تولىhas departed
وضياءَand the light of الشمسthe sun يقربdraws near
Do you not see that night has departed
See how the night has come to pass,
and the sunlight draws near?
And the sun's light begins to spring,
والثرياand the Pleiades شبهlike كأسٍa cup
حينwhen تبدوappear ثمthen تغربset
And the Pleiades are like a cup
The Pleiades appearing like
when they appear and then set.
A goblet, when they rise and sink,
وكأنand as though الشرقthe East يسقيserves drink
وكأنَّand as though الغربَthe West يشرَبdrinks
And it is as though the East serves drink,
As though the East were drinking them,
and as though the West drinks.
And as though the West did drink.
