أبا حسن لما سبقت الى العلى

تفردت فيها بالفضيله في السبق

تفردت فيها بالفضيله في السبق

O Abu Hasan, when you raced ahead toward the heights,

you alone gained there the distinction of being first.

فصيرت لي حقا بفضلك واجبا

فصيرت لي حقا بفضلك واجبا

واعطيتني شيئاً سوى ذلك الحق

واعطيتني شيئاً سوى ذلك الحق

So through your bounty you made a right of mine binding,

and gave me something beyond that right.

فقدت بها قلبي اليك وان تسل

فقدت بها قلبي اليك وان تسل

خبيرا به يخبرك صدقك عن صدقي

خبيرا به يخبرك صدقك عن صدقي

Thus you led my heart to you through it; and if you ask

one who knows it well, your sincerity will tell you of mine.

ملكت قيادي يا ابن يحيى بنعمة

ملكت قيادي يا ابن يحيى بنعمة

فان زدتني اخرى ملكت بها رقي

فان زدتني اخرى ملكت بها رقي

With one favor you took hold of my reins, O son of Yahya;

if you grant me another, you will thereby own me as a slave.

فمن اين لي في الخلق مثلك سيد

فمن اين لي في الخلق مثلك سيد

اذا كان لم يسمع بمثلك في الخلق

اذا كان لم يسمع بمثلك في الخلق

So where among humankind could I find a lord like you,

when no equal to you in character has ever been heard of?

وقد سار شعري فيك غربا ومشرقا

وقد سار شعري فيك غربا ومشرقا

كجودك لما سار في الغرب والشرق

كجودك لما سار في الغرب والشرق

Indeed, my verse about you has traveled westward and eastward,

like your bounty when it traveled through west and east.

ان قابلوا شعري بجودك سائرا

ان قابلوا شعري بجودك سائرا

فما بين اشعاري وجودك من فرق

فما بين اشعاري وجودك من فرق

If they compare my verse with your far-traveling bounty,

there is no difference between my poems and your bounty.

فليتك اذ خلدت حمدك باقيا

فليتك اذ خلدت حمدك باقيا

على غابر الأيام تبقى كما تبقى

على غابر الأيام تبقى كما تبقى

Would that, since I have made your praise endure forever,

through the days to come you might endure as you sustain others.
