فهو من لينه يحل ويعقد
May my father be ransom for the one I saw swaying.
By my father, whom I saw bending,
So supple is he that he can be untied and knotted.
So pliant is he, binding and loosing,

حسدوه على الجمال فقالوا

أعرج والمليح مازال يحسد
They envied him his beauty and said,
They envied his beauty and said,
“He is lame!”—and the handsome are ever envied.
"He limps," though the beautiful are ever envied.

He is a bough, and beauty lies in the tender bough
He's a bough, and beauty's in the bending bough,
as long as it leans and sways.
Not in the upright, unresponsive tree.
