رُبَّmany a نارَنجَةٍbitter orange تَأَمَّلتُI contemplated مِنهاfrom it
رُبَّ نارَنجَةٍ تَأَمَّلتُ مِنها
مَنظَراًa sight رائِعاًwondrous وَنَشْئاًand a growth غَريباstrange
مَنظَراً رائِعاً وَنَشْئاً غَريبا
In many a bitter orange I have beheld
a wondrous sight and a strange growth.
نَشَأَتit grew فيon القَضِيبِthe twig وَهيَwhile it was رَمادٌash
نَشَأَت في القَضِيبِ وَهيَ رَمادٌ
فَغَذَاهاthen nourished it الحَياthe rain فَعادَتand it became لَهيباa flame
فَغَذَاها الحَيا فَعادَت لَهيبا
It grew upon the twig while it was ash;
then rain nourished it, and it became a flame.
