Cease your reproach; torment is enough for me.
Enough blaming me, for giving up is enough for me,
Or try some of what I endure, and blame me.
Or try some of what I face and blame me.

You now dwell in Yabrin's sands; have
Becoming sands that drift you still do not know,
the sands of Yabrin learned that longing wears me away?
That drifting sands, desire makes drift in me.

I love beauty, and fear of God holds me back,
from passion, while wide eyes entice me.
From passion, while charming eyes entice me.

What ails Asma, that she puts me off with her promises?
Why does Asma insist on delaying our trysts?
Is every beautiful woman fickle?
Each beauty with charm has one who charms.

But has now made my hair gray, distancing me.

O India, gray hair suits worldly life,

I am not one whose practice is to backbite the noble,
nor is tale-bearing in my nature or my creed.
Nor tale bearing my nature or faith.

Leave me be, suffering life alone,
for part of what I know of people is enough for me.
For some knowing people is enough for me.

For God protects and builds me.

I care not that time's caprice angers me,

For your blessings' flow satisfies me.

May your enemies be made wretched; I long to pledge allegiance to you.
I suffer without you and love to owe you allegiance,
And your foes have their creed concerning you, and I have mine.
While they owe allegiance to their faith, and I to mine.
