رَأَيتُ مُلوكَ الأَرضِ في كُلِّ بَلدَةٍ

وَأَبصَرتُ مالا يُبصِرُ الناسَ في الناسِ

I saw the kings of the earth in every land,

And I saw what people do not see in people.

وَطَوَّفتُ في شَرقٍ وَغَربٍ وَأُدمِيَت

مَناسِيمُ أَعياسِي وَآطالُ أَفراسي

I traveled east and west, my steads I guided,

Oblivious were my companions, far my horses raced.

فَلَم أَرَ مَخلُوقاً مِنَ الناسِ فَضلُهُ

يَزيدُ عَلى فَضلِ المُعِزِّ بنِ مِرداسِ

Yet no creature of mankind did I find,

Whose merit would exceed Al-Muizz ibn Mirdas.
