عَيشُ الفتى مَوتُ الحَرَج
Never be distressed, for
Do not be embarrassed, for
a young man's life is but the death of distress.
A young man's life is the death of embarrassment.
وإذاand when يئستَyou despair فلاthen do not تَبُتmake final (continued)
وإذا يئستَ فلا تَبُت
تَcompletion of 'make final' اليأسَdespair وانتظِرand await الفَرَجrelief
تَ اليأسَ وانتظِر الفَرَج
And when you despair, do not make
And when you lose hope, do not spend the night
despair final; await relief.
In despair, and wait for relief.
والرِّزقَand sustenance أجمِلseek moderately فيهin seeking it إنَّindeed
والرِّزقَ أجمِل فيه إنَّ
الرِّزقَsustenance يأتيcomes لَوeven if عَرَجit limps
الرِّزقَ يأتي لَو عَرَج
And seek sustenance with moderation, for
And hope for sustenance, for
sustenance comes, even if it limps.
Sustenance will come even if delayed.
أرَجُfragrance الكريمthe noble man بذكرِهِthrough remembrance of him
أرَجُ الكريم بذكرِهِ
والذِّكرُand remembrance يُخلِدُهُmakes it immortal الأَرَجfragrance
والذِّكرُ يُخلِدُهُ الأَرَج
A noble man's fragrance lies in remembrance of him,
The generous are remembered,
and fragrance makes that remembrance immortal.
And remembrance immortalizes them in history.
فئةُcircle of companions الفتىthe young man رَيعانُهُhis youthful prime
فئةُ الفتى رَيعانُهُ
رَيحانُهُhis sweet basil مَهمَاwhenever دَرَجhe passes away
رَيحانُهُ مَهمَا دَرَج
A young man's circle is his youthful bloom,
A young man's brothers are his youth,
his sweet basil, even when he has passed away.
His basil, no matter his status.
