لِلّهِto God (an exclamation of praise) مَنhe who لمnot (past negation) تَنَمsleep حزامتُهُhis prudence
مَهماwhenever يَرِدhe enters فيin مُلِمَّةٍa calamity صَدَراhe emerges
How admirable is he whose prudence never sleeps!
The one whose belt hunger cannot loosen,
Whenever he enters a calamity, he emerges from it.
No matter what fate may bring upon his chest,
إذاwhen رأىhe sees فرصةًan opportunity قدِalready ابتَدَرَتit has suddenly arisen
قامَhe rises لهاfor it فيin الرِّكابِthe stirrups وابتَدَراand he hastens
When he sees an opportunity that has suddenly arisen,
If he sees a chance unexpectedly,
he rises in the stirrups to meet it and hastens forward.
He rises to it with both feet and seizes it.
وليسَand there is not شيءٌanything إليهِto him مِنof كَرَمٍgenerosity
أحبَّdearer منthan عَفوِهِhis forgiveness إذاwhen قَدرَاhe has the power
And no generous deed is, to him,
And nothing is more beloved to him than
dearer than his forgiveness when he has the power.
His pardoning others when he is able.
يُؤثِرُhe favors بِالصَّفوِwith the clear draught ذاthe possessor of مودَّتهِhis affection
عَنfrom طيبِcontentment of نَفسٍspirit ويَشرَبُand he drinks الكَدَراthe murky draught
He favors his friend with the clear draught,
He prefers kindness to the one he loves
with a willing heart, and drinks the murky draught himself.
Over the sweetness of soul and drinks the bitter.
إنif جَرَّbrings about ماwhat لاnot يُريدُهُhe desires it قَدَرٌfate
أبدَىhe shows رِضاهُhis contentment وأكرَمَand he honors القَدَراfate
If fate brings what he does not desire,
If fate draws what he does not want,
he shows his contentment and honors fate.
He shows acceptance and honors fate.
