إن ورَدَ النَّار غداً مِن دَرَك
What grievance can a man of sixty have against his Lord
A man of sixty has no claim against his Lord
if tomorrow he enters the Fire in one of its depths?
for redress, should he enter the Fire tomorrow.

God has surely warned him fully; and there is no
God has left him no excuse, and there is no
excuse for an old man who has witnessed life’s fray.

He did not forsake sin; rather,
He did not abandon sin, but he
repentance was among the things he forsook.
did abandon repentance among the things he abandoned.

He fell upon his mouth and hands—and how many
a sparrow the snare has failed to catch!
sparrows the snares have not caught!

set him moving will still all movement in him.
stirred him stilled the motion within him.

He urged the camel of life onward with song, until, when
death came upon it and made it kneel—it sank to its knees.
death came upon him, making it kneel, it knelt.
