ولوand if وفَتِkept faith الأَيّامthe days جاشَتoverflowed صُدورُهاtheir breasts
بماwith what ضُمّنتهُthey were entrusted with it أوuntil تبلغَconvey ماwhat عِنديwith me
And if the days kept faith, their breasts would overflow
Even if the days were to overflow, their hearts
With what they were entrusted to hold, until they conveyed what I hold within.
Would gush with what I have instilled or attain what I possess
ولوand if جرتblew الخمسُthe five الرِّياحُthe winds تضوَّعَتgave off fragrance
بماwith what استنشقتهthey inhaled it منof ثنائيmy praise ومنand of وديmy affection
And if the five winds blew, they would spread fragrance
And if the five winds were to blow, they would be fragrant
With what they inhaled of my praise and my affection.
With what they inhaled of my praise and affection
ولوand if كانthere was عهدٌa pledge للغزالةِfor the sun جَددتit renewed
لكمfor you كلevery ماthat which أَبقىleft الجديدانِday and night منof عِهدa pledge
And if the sun had a pledge, it would renew
And if there was a pact for the gazelle, she would renew
For you every pledge that day and night have left.
For you all that the two wrists have kept of the pact
ألمhave you not تسألواasked والقلبُwhile the heart رهنٌa pledge لديكُمin your keeping
فيخبركُمso it tells you عنّيabout me بمضمرهِthrough what it harbors بَعديin my absence
Have you not asked, while my heart lies pledged in your keeping,
Did you not ask, while my heart is hostage to you
So it might tell you of me through what it harbors, in my absence?
So it tells you about me and what it conceals after me
فلوso if قبلتنيaccepted me الحادثاتthe misfortunes مكانكمin your place
I would let them plunder وفريmy wealth وأوطأتُهاand let them tread upon خدّيmy cheek
So, were misfortunes to accept me in your place,
If misfortunes were to befall you instead of me
I would let them plunder my wealth and tread upon my cheek.
I would confront them with my strength and press them to my cheek
ألمdo you not تعلَمُواknow أنيthat I وأهليand my family وواحديand my only child
فِداءٌa ransom ولاand not أرضىI am content بتفديةٍwith offering a ransom وحديmyself alone
Do you not know that I, my family, and my only child
Do you not know that I, my family and my one
Are a ransom for you—and I am not content to offer myself alone?
Are ransom, and I am not pleased with just ransoming myself
