فهاso behold هماthe two of them يحكيانthey both resemble العاشقَthe lover الدّنفاailing
Sickness has dealt justly with your eyes and exacted its due.
Illness has been fair to your eyes, and they have taken revenge,
So behold: they both resemble the ailing lover.
Now they tell of a tender lover,
ياO ساحرَbewitcher of الطرفthe gaze قدindeed أغريتَyou unleashed بيupon me كلَفآpassion
بَرحآagonizing وصيرتنيand you made me أستحسنُI find beautiful الكلفاthe passion
O you whose gaze bewitches, you have unleashed upon me a passion,
O sorcerer of the eyelashes, you have made me suffer,
Agonizing, and made me find passion lovely.
Innocently, and made me appreciate suffering,
أظُنّI think خديكَyour two cheeks منwith جاريflowing دميmy blood اختَضبَاthey both were dyed
لقدindeed تناهيتَyou went to the utmost فيin قتليkilling me وقدand indeed ظَرُفاthey both grew lovely
I think your cheeks have been dyed with my flowing blood.
I think your cheeks have been dyed by my blood,
Indeed, you have gone to the utmost in killing me, and your cheeks have grown lovely.
You have gone too far in killing me, and have been unjust.
