وروضٍ حديقٍ كالشبابِ طرقتُه
وللنجمِand for the stars فيin أفقِthe horizon of السماءِthe sky ركودُstillness
وللنجمِ في أفقِ السماءِ ركودُ
And a lush meadow, like youth, I visited by night,
A garden's meadow I roamed, youthful as morn
while the stars stood still on the horizon of the sky.
While stars above in the sky remained still

كما استعير العُشاقُ وهو جليدُ
Dew shimmered in the eyes of its narcissi,
Dew droplets trembled on narcissi's eyes
as though borrowed from lovers, though it is ice.
As lovers quivered, though firm of will

فتخجلُ فيه للشَقيق خُدود
And there the daisies' smiling mouths part,
Amidst branches smiles of anemones peeked
so the anemones' cheeks blush there.
Blushing beside them carnations, cheeks filled

And their fruits quiver above the branches,
Fruit overflowed, dangling from above
as breasts quiver on bān-like figures.
As soft bleating poured out from lambs, newly-weaned

A stream unsheathes Mashrafi swords over them;
A stream trickled down the terraces
it has a cool pool whose saliva is sweet.
Sweetly its soft splashes soothing, serene

And the palm-tree maidens stood on every side,
Date palms stood, maidens, on every side
bareheaded, with necklaces at their throats.
Necklaces gracing their dresses' sheen
