يمينُ أبي العلاء إذا إستهلَّت

سحائبٌ جودها هطلت نوالا

سحائبٌ جودها هطلت نوالا

Abū al-ʿAlāʾ’s right hand, when rain begins to fall,

showers gifts from the clouds of its generosity.

تفيضُ على العفاة حيا فإن لم

تفيضُ على العفاة حيا فإن لم

تفض سحب الكرام وغضنَ والى

تفض سحب الكرام وغضنَ والى

It pours life-giving rain upon those seeking bounty; and if

the clouds of the generous do not pour and run dry, he keeps giving.
