ثارَتsprang up إِلَيهِtoward him المَناياthe fates of death مِنfrom مَكامِنهاtheir hiding places
ثارَت إِلَيهِ المَنايا مِن مَكامِنها
سِرّاًsecretly عَلىduring غَفلَةِthe heedlessness of الحُرّاسِthe guards وَالسُمُرِand the tawny spears
سِرّاً عَلى غَفلَةِ الحُرّاسِ وَالسُمُرِ
The deadly fates sprang upon him from their hiding places,
In secret, while the guards and tawny spears were heedless.
أولىwoe لَهُنَّto them وَأولىand woe لَوif هَمَمنَthey intended harm بِهِto him
أولى لَهُنَّ وَأولى لَو هَمَمنَ بِهِ
وَالمَنعُand defense ذوpossessing راحَةٍa hand's palm وَالدَفعُand resistance ذوpossessing حَذَرِvigilance
وَالمَنعُ ذو راحَةٍ وَالدَفعُ ذو حَذَرِ
Woe to them, and woe, had they intended him harm,
While defense had a hand and resistance was vigilant.
