قُلsay لِلوَزيرِto the minister أَدامَmay perpetuate اللَهُGod عِزَّتَهُhis glory

Tell the minister—may God perpetuate his glory—
And rank perishes, and time's message is clear.
لَئِنif indeed نَبَتwas inhospitable بِيَto me حمصٌHoms وَهيَand it قَدindeed فَعَلَتhas done so
فَلَيسَso it is not تَنبوbe inhospitable بِيَto me السَبعُthe seven الأَقاليمُclimes
Though Homs has spurned me—and indeed it has—
The seven climes will not all spurn me.
ليfor me فيin مَناكِبِshoulders أَرضِearth اللَهِof God مُضطَربٌroom to roam

I have room to roam on the shoulders of God's earth,
If Lakhm and Makhzum freely yield me to separation.
