خَلوصُthe pure essence ريّاكِyour fragrance فيin أَنفاسِthe breaths آذارِMarch
O waft of blossoms, from your passage came to me
The pure essence of your fragrance in the breaths of March.
وَالأَرضُand the earth فيin حُلَلٍrobes قَدindeed كادَnearly يُحرِقُهاsets them ablaze
تَوَقُّدُthe blazing النورِthe blossoms لَولاwere it not for ماؤُهاher water الجاريflowing
And the earth is clad in robes nearly set ablaze
By the blaze of blossoms, but for her flowing water.
وَالطَيرُand the birds فيamong وَرَقِthe leaves الأَشجارِthe trees شادِيَةٌsinging
كَأَنَّهُنَّas though they were قِيانٌsinging slave-girls خَلفَbehind أَستارِcurtains
And the birds sing among the leaves of the trees,
As though they were singing slave-girls behind curtains.
