    Indeed, the kingdoms—the swords bear witness—

    Are your handmaids, and kings your slaves.

    Resolves have beheld you amid noble deeds,

    With aid proceeding according to their decrees.

    And heights of glory arose with the stars, and before them,

    And theirs is immortality beyond the stars.

    From a people who grasped the farthest reaches of glory,

    While the horizon was unadorned and the nights were black.

    وَسَطَوا فَثارَت في السَماءِ أسودُ

    They gave generously, and stars appeared upon the earth;

    And they struck fiercely, and lions rose in the sky.

    O garden whose fragrance the breeze described,

    Be kind to me, for I am a songbird.

    Why do I flutter around your grove, exposed to the sun,

    Describing burning thirst, though its water is sought for drinking?

    Hopes have no fault except that they

    Are shooting stars whose good fortune comes from seeing you.

    قربَ الرَدى مِن خَلفِها مَزؤودُ

    They rode toward you on the wing of every resolve;

    Death drew near behind them, stricken with fear.

    They devoured the earth toward you, and it suffices them,

    If chains of praise of you do not hinder them.
