عَذيريmy advocate إِلىto المَجدِglory مِنfor كَونِbeing مِثليone like me
عَذيري إِلى المَجدِ مِن كَونِ مِثلي
بِآنَةَin Āna أَوor مِنfor مَبيتيmy overnight stay بَلُبِّin Lubb
بِآنَةَ أَو مِن مَبيتي بَلُبِّ
Who will plead my excuse before glory for one like me
being in Āna, or for my nights spent in Lubb?
وَبَغدادُand Baghdad لَوif هَتَفَتshe called out بيto me هَلُمَّcome!
وَبَغدادُ لَو هَتَفَت بي هَلُمَّ
هلُمَّcome! لماwould not كُنتُI was مِمَّنamong those who يُلَبّيanswers the call
هلُمَّ لما كُنتُ مِمَّن يُلَبّي
And if Baghdad called out to me, “Come,
come!” I would not be among those who answer.
