Visit the caliph's palace, you two, and look

Upon a radiant garden estate, built for a radiant one.

Adorned, she entrusts her secret to the star,

And you imagine it listening to her, so you two may be told.

In a helmet by the red flower in the sky.

In her beholder, wishing it too had seen her.

A building—when night loosens its veil,

Dawn appears radiant from its lofty crests.

    إذا أكثَروا في وصفهِ كان أكثَرا

    It soars so high, beyond every describer's reach;

However lavishly they describe it, it is greater still.

You see the white estate at every sunrise,

Clothing the sun's face in a safflower-dyed robe.

When the sun draws a curtain over every star,

Its light dims before hers, and it hides.

And if the morning sun is excused for veiling her stars

In the sky, the palace has more excuse for veiling the sun.

And here it is before you—look: do you see any imbalance

In it, or have your eyes seen a lovelier sight?

You see the swaying irises amid her gardens,

Gleaming in beauty among daisies turned to golden dinars.

They drape themselves in this Yemeni cloth, just as

They gird themselves in that saffron-dyed mantle.

In an embroidered garden, her breeze brings her

At the crossroads of the winds, musk and ambergris.

Her warp is of pure, brilliant white,

And her weft of vivid yellow.

She casts glances from eyes that seem

    Ruby gemstones, crowned with jewels.

Enjoy yourself, God's trustee and son of His trustee,

In an earthly paradise, at evening and early morning.

Imam of guidance, may you ever remain in the shade of bliss,

And may I ever clothe you in richly embroidered praise.
