هلis there منany جَديدٍsomething new علىwith كرِّthe recurrence of الجَديدينِthe two ever-new ones: night and day
هل من جَديدٍ على كرِّ الجَديدينِ
They said, “Your youth has passed,” and I said to them:
They said your youth has passed, so I replied:
“Is there anything new as night and day recur?”
Is there anything new with the passing of time?

فأَطيبُfor the sweetest العيشِlife وصْلٌunion بينَbetween إِلفينِtwo lovers
فأَطيبُ العيشِ وصْلٌ بينَ إِلفينِ
Stay close to the one you love, even if they voice reproach,
Reconcile with those you love, even if they reproach you,
For the sweetest life is union between two lovers.
For the sweetest life is to reunite with an old friend.
وأقْطَعْand sever حَبَائلَthe bonds of خلٍّa close friend لاnot تُلائمُهُyou get along with him
وأقْطَعْ حَبَائلَ خلٍّ لا تُلائمُهُ
فربَّماfor sometimes ضاقَتِgrew narrow الدُّنياthe world علىfor اثْنينِtwo
فربَّما ضاقَتِ الدُّنيا على اثْنينِ
And sever the bonds with a friend you do not get along with,
And cut off ties with those who no longer get along,
For sometimes the world grows too narrow for two.
For the world can barely contain two incompatible souls.
