الجسمُthe body فيin بَلَدٍa land وَالرُّوحُand the soul فيin بَلَدِa land
الجسمُ في بَلَدٍ وَالرُّوحُ في بَلَدِ
يَاO وحشَةloneliness الرُّوحِof the soul بَلْrather يَاO غُربَةَexile الجَسَدِof the body
يَا وحشَة الرُّوحِ بَلْ يَا غُربَةَ الجَسَدِ
The body is in one land, and the soul in another.
The body in one country, the soul in another
O loneliness of the soul—rather, O exile of the body!
O loneliness of the soul! O strangeness of the body!
إِنْif تَبْكِweep عَيْنَاكَyour two eyes ليfor me يَاO مَنْyou whom كلِفْتُI am enamored بِهِof him
إِنْ تَبْكِ عَيْنَاكَ لي يَا مَنْ كلِفْتُ بِهِ
مِنْout of رَحمَةٍcompassion فَهُماthen they both are سَهْمانِtwo arrows فيin كَبِديmy liver
مِنْ رَحمَةٍ فَهُما سَهْمانِ في كَبِدي
If your eyes weep for me, O you whom I adore,
If your eyes weep for me, o you whom I charged
out of compassion, then they are two arrows in my liver.
With mercy, they are arrows in my heart
