شمسٌ تَدبَّرَتْها بالكفِّ والعينِ
She offered you her intoxicating power in two cups—
She offered you her cheeks in two cups
a sun that tended it with hand and eye.
A sun she contemplated with her palm and her eyes

يسعى بتلك وهذي شادنٌ غَنِجٌ
كأنَّهas though he were قمرٌa moon يسعَىhe moves بنجمينِwith two stars
كأنَّه قمرٌ يسعَى بنجمينِ
A coquettish young gazelle moves with that one and this,
With this and that one a slender, delicate branch is busy
as though he were a moon moving with two stars.
As though he were a moon bustling about with two stars
كأنَّهas though he were حينwhen يمشيhe walks فيin تأوُّدهِhis swaying

قضيبُa bough بانٍof a bān tree تَثنَّىit swayed بينَbetween ريحينِtwo winds
قضيبُ بانٍ تَثنَّى بينَ ريحينِ
As though, when he walks with his swaying gait,
As though when he walked in his lovingness
he were a bān-tree bough swaying between two breezes.
He were a supple bough bending between two breezes
