يَاO مُجِيلَyou who set in motion الرُّوحِthe soul فيin جَسَديmy body
والذِيand you who يَفْتَرُّsmile عَنْrevealing بَرَدِhailstones
O you who set the soul coursing through my body,
O beautiful spirit in my body
And you whose smile reveals hailstones,
That relieves the cold
وَفَريدَand the peerless one of الحُسْنِbeauty واحِدَهُits only one
مُنْتَهاهُits utmost limit مُنْتَهىthe limit of العَدَدِnumber
And you, beauty’s peerless one, its one and only,
Unique in beauty, one of a kind
Its utmost limit is the limit of number.
With no equal in number
خُذْtake بِكَفِّيby my hand إِنَّنيindeed I am غَرِقٌdrowning
فيin بِحارٍseas جَمَّةِabundant in المَدَدِthe inflow of water
Take my hand, for I am drowning
Take my hand for I am drowning
In seas of abundant waters.
In vast oceans with no end
ورِياحُand the winds of الهجْرِestrangement قدْindeed هَدَمَتْhave torn down
ماwhat أقامَset straight الصبرُpatience مِنْof أَوَدِيmy crookedness
And the winds of estrangement have torn down
The winds of separation have destroyed
What patience had set straight in my bent frame.
What patience had built of shelters
