مَاwhat بَالُis the matter with بَابِكَyour door مَحْرُوسَاًguarded ببَوَّابِby a doorkeeper
يَحْمِيهِprotects it مِنْfrom طَارِقٍa visitor يَأْتِيwho comes وَمُنْتابِand a frequent caller
Why is your door guarded by a doorkeeper,
who protects it from an arriving visitor and a frequent caller?
لاlet not يَحْتَجِبْbe hidden وَجْهُكَyour face المَمْقُوتُdetested عنْfrom أَحَدٍanyone
فَالمَقْتُfor loathing يَحْجُبُهُscreens it مِنْfrom غَيْرِother than حُجَّابِdoorkeepers
Let your detested face be hidden from no one,
for loathing screens it without doorkeepers.
فَاعْزِلْso dismiss عَنِfrom البَابِthe door مَنْwhoever قَدْalready ظَلَّkept يحْجُبُهُbarring access to it
فَإِنَّfor indeed وَجْهكَyour face طِلَّسْمٌa talisman علىupon البابِthe door
So dismiss from the door whoever has kept barring access to it,
for your face is a talisman upon the door.
