بجودِ أميرِ المؤمنين تَنَبّعتْ

بجودِ أميرِ المؤمنين تَنَبّعتْ

عليَّ شعابُ العيشِ وهْيَ حوافلُ

عليَّ شعابُ العيشِ وهْيَ حوافلُ

Through the Commander of the Faithful’s generosity, there welled forth

Through the generosity of the Commander of the Faithful, there gushed forth

over me the channels of life, brimming full.

upon me the channels of livelihood, brimming full.

وألبسني ثوبَ الغنى بعد فاقةٍ

وألبسني ثوبَ الغنى بعد فاقةٍ

فأنضرَ عودي بعدَ إذْ هو ذابلُ

فأنضرَ عودي بعدَ إذْ هو ذابلُ

He clothed me in the robe of wealth after destitution,

And he clothed me in the garment of wealth after poverty,

and made my bough verdant after it had withered.

so he made my stem verdant after it had withered.

فأَذهلني شُكري له وامتنانُهُ

فأَذهلني شُكري له وامتنانُهُ

فعقلي من هذا وذلك ذاهلُ

فعقلي من هذا وذلك ذاهلُ

My gratitude to him and his bounty left me dazed;

So my gratitude to him and his bounty bewildered me,

by this and that, then, my mind is bewildered.

and my mind is dazed by this and that.
