إليكَto you ياO غُرَّةَradiance of الهلالِthe crescent moon
وبِدعةَand marvel of الحُسنِloveliness والجَمالِand beauty
To you, O radiance of the crescent moon,
and marvel of loveliness and beauty,
مدَدتُI stretched out كفّاًa hand بهاin it انْقباضٌclenching
فأَينَbut where كفّيmy hand منَfrom الهلالِthe crescent moon
I stretched out a hand that was clenched—
but how far my hand is from the crescent moon!
شكَوتُI complained of ماwhat بيwas in me إليكَto you وَجْداًin passionate longing
فلمbut did not تَرِقَّyou show tenderness ولمand did not تُبالِyou care
I complained to you of my anguish in love,
yet you showed no tenderness and did not care.
أعاضَكَmay He give you in return اللَّهُGod عَنin قريبٍa short time
حالاًa state منof السُّقمsickness مثلَlike حَاليmy state
May God soon give you in return
a state of sickness like my own.
