بلnay ربَّmany a مُذْهبةِgolden-hued wine المزاجِthe blend ومُذْهَبٍand a gilded cup
بل ربَّ مُذْهبةِ المزاجِ ومُذْهَبٍ
راحاboth passed براحةِin the palm of ريمهِhis white gazelle وغزالهِand his gazelle
راحا براحةِ ريمهِ وغزالهِ
Nay, many a golden-blended wine and gilded cup
But Lord, of the distracted mind and mood
Both passed in the palm of his white gazelle and his gazelle.
Goes his complacent way to his rest and sleep
وكأنَّand as though كفَّthe hand of مُديرِهاthe one passing it (the wine) around ومُديرِهِand the one passing it (the cup) around
وكأنَّ كفَّ مُديرِها ومُديرِهِ
فَلكٌa celestial sphere يدورُrevolves بشمسهِwith its sun وهلالهِand its crescent moon
فَلكٌ يدورُ بشمسهِ وهلالهِ
And the hand of the one passing each around seemed
As if the hands that guide stars in their course
A celestial sphere revolving with its sun and crescent moon.
Were guiding gently his steps, calm and deep
