وصَحائحٍand healthy women مَرضىailing العُيونِthe eyes شَحائحٍwithholding
بِيضِfair الوجُوهِthe faces نَواعمِsoft الأَبْشارِthe skins
And women hale in body, sick of eye and withholding,
Fair of face and soft of skin,
أَضْنَينَنيthey wore me down بِلواحِظٍwith glances تَشكوcomplain of الضَّنَىwasting sickness
وَكَسَوْنَنيand they clothed me ماwhat هُنَّthey مِنْهُfrom it عَوارِيfree
Have worn me down with glances that complain of wasting sickness,
And clothed me in what they themselves are free of:
بِجَوىًwith burning grief حَوَتْهُharbored it مُهْجَتيmy heart عَنْfrom مُقْلَتيmy eye
والجارُand the neighbor قَدْmay يَشْقَىsuffer بِذَنبِfor the sin of الجارِthe neighbor
With burning grief my heart received from my eye;
And a neighbor may suffer for a neighbor's sin.
