تلقَّتْwelcomed بهwith him شمسٌa sun وأنجبَهُand begot him بدرُa full moon
A crescent nurtured by glory and chosen by pride;
A crescent whose glory grew and whom nobility chose,
A sun welcomed him, and a full moon begot him.
A sun conceived him and a full moon gave birth.

فضاءَتْso shone بهthrough him الآمالُhopes وابتهجَand rejoiced الشِّعرُpoetry
Upon his face is the mark of noble virtues and eminence;
On his face are the marks of generosity and sublimity,
Through him hopes shone, and poetry rejoiced.
Hopes shone through him and poetry rejoiced.
سلالةُa scion of أملاكٍkings ربيبُa ward of خَلائفٍcaliphs
أكفُّهمُtheir palms بحرٌa sea ونائلُهمْand their bounty غَمرُa flood
A scion of kings, a ward of caliphs,
A scion of sovereigns, a foster child of caliphs,
Their palms a sea, their bounty a flood.
With hands like a sea and attainments like a deluge.
بداappeared لصلاةِfor the prayer of الظُّهرِnoon نجمَa star of مَكارمٍnoble virtues
تحفُّgathers بهaround him العَلياgrandeur ويكنفُهand enfolds him الفخرُpride
He appeared for the noon prayer, a star of noble virtues;
For the noon prayer appeared a star of virtues
Grandeur surrounds him, and pride enfolds him.
With which the heights are adorned and which glory surrounds.
نَماهُraised him إلىto العلياءِthe heights خيرُthe finest خليفةٍcaliph
تَتيهُtakes pride بهin him الدنياthe world ويزهَىand glories بهin him القَصْرُthe palace
The finest caliph raised him to the heights;
A excellent caliph raised him to the heights,
The world takes pride in him, and the palace glories in him.
The world goes astray through him and the palace takes pride in him.
كذاكthus يَطيبُis sound الفْرعُthe branch إنْif طابis sound نَجْرُهُits stock
وماand never طابَwas sound فرعٌa branch لاnot يطيبُis sound لهfor it نَجْرُstock
So the branch is sound if its stock is sound;
Thus the branch is fragrant if its source is fragrant,
Nor is any branch sound whose stock is unsound.
No branch can be fragrant unless its source is fragrant.
فلاso may he never زالcease to be محفوفاًsurrounded بأكنافِby the shelter of نعمةٍblessing
يطيرُtakes flight لهfor him ذِكرٌrenown ويسموand rises بهِwith him قَدْرُstature
May he ever remain surrounded on all sides by blessing,
He remains surrounded by the wings of favor,
His renown taking flight and his stature rising high.
Remembrance takes flight for him and status rises through him.

فياso, O منyou whom كساهُclothed him اللَّهُGod تاجَthe crown of خلافةٍthe caliphate
ومَنand one whose جُودُهُhis generosity قَطرٌrain إذاwhen أُعدمَis lacking القطرُthe rain
So, O you whom God has clothed with the crown of the caliphate,
O you whom God crowned with the crown of caliphate,
And whose generosity is rain when rain fails,

ومَنand one whose كانwould يَنْدَىgrow moist الخيزُرانُthe bamboo cane بكفِّهِin his palm

And in whose palm the bamboo cane would grow moist,
Whose palm makes the basil fragrant
And green leaves would sprout at its tips.
And on whose fingers green leaves grow.
