The heart folds up the letter of longing,

And its ink comes from the flood of tears.

The hand of weeping writes lines with it

Upon my liver, and sleeplessness dictates them.

And how can my heart be aflutter

For one whose heart does not flutter?

Can generosity be absent from Yemen,

While Ibrahim is its generous Hatim?

Visiting him is a pilgrimage for whoever comes to him,

And praising him is frontier duty or jihad.

And I have no excuse for staying away from him,

While I have a riding camel and provisions on earth.
