شمسٌ بدَت من حجابِ الملكِ أم قمرُ

أم برقُ مدجِنةٍ يَعشَى له البصرُ

أم برقُ مدجِنةٍ يَعشَى له البصرُ

Is it a sun that has appeared from behind the king’s curtain, or a moon?

Is it the sun that dawned from the veil of the King, or the moon?

Or lightning from a dark rain cloud, before which sight is dazzled?

Or is it a tamed lightning, for which sight is bedazzled?
