طَلَّقَ اللَّهْوَ فُؤادِي ثَلاثاً

طَلَّقَ اللَّهْوَ فُؤادِي ثَلاثاً

لا ارْتِجاعَ ليَ بَعْدَ الثَّلاثِ

لا ارْتِجاعَ ليَ بَعْدَ الثَّلاثِ

My heart has divorced amusement three times.

My heart is divorced from frivolity three times

There is no taking it back for me after the three.

No return for me after the third

وَبَيَاضٌ في سَوَادِ عِذاري

وَبَيَاضٌ في سَوَادِ عِذاري

بَدَّلَ التَّشْبيبَ لي بِالمَراثي

بَدَّلَ التَّشْبيبَ لي بِالمَراثي

And whiteness amid the black of my sideburns

And whiteness in the blackness of my cheeks

Has replaced love poetry for me with elegies.

Has changed my youth into elegy

غَيْرَ أَنِّي لا أُطِيقُ اصْطِباراً

غَيْرَ أَنِّي لا أُطِيقُ اصْطِباراً

وَأُراني صَابِراً لانْتِكاثي

وَأُراني صَابِراً لانْتِكاثي

Yet I cannot bear to be patient,

Yet I cannot endure with patience

And I find myself patient with my backsliding,

And I see myself patient until my demise

بإِنَاثٍ في صِفاتِ ذُكُورٍ

بإِنَاثٍ في صِفاتِ ذُكُورٍ

وَذُكُورٍ في صِفَاتِ إناثِ

وَذُكُورٍ في صِفَاتِ إناثِ

With females bearing the traits of males,

With feminine qualities in masculine traits

And males bearing the traits of females.

And masculine traits in feminine qualities
