O king in whom the pulpit takes pride,

And the congregational mosque that he built,

    God's caliph among His creatures,

He harbors secretly toward the people what he proclaims openly.

O moon of the earth, if you are absent, you have indeed

Established for the people a star that shines.

The people never rejoiced as much as they did

When the man of letters was pardoned and made vizier.

And the realm rejoiced when it was governed

By the imam's eye, with which he sees:

A pivot around whom the entire orbit turns,

In affairs and counsel, whenever he governs.

The house remained, throughout his absence,

Blind; then, when he took his place in it, it saw.
