مُسْتَهامٌlovestruck دَمْعُهُhis tears سَافِحُpouring forth
مُسْتَهامٌ دَمْعُهُ سَافِحُ
بَيْنَbetween جَفْنَيْهِhis two eyelids هَوىًpassion قادِحُstriking sparks
بَيْنَ جَفْنَيْهِ هَوىً قادِحُ
Lovestruck, his tears pour forth;
With tears flowing down his cheeks
Between his eyelids, passion strikes sparks.
And passion burning between his eyelids
كُلَّماwhenever أَمَّheaded toward سَبيلَthe path of الهُدىguidance
كُلَّما أَمَّ سَبيلَ الهُدى
عافَهُshunned him السانِحُthe bird of good omen وَالبارِحُand the bird of ill omen
عافَهُ السانِحُ وَالبارِحُ
Whenever he seeks the path of guidance,
Whenever he finds the path of guidance
Birds of good and ill omen alike shun him.
Both reproacher and carper avoid him
حلَّsettled فيماin what lies بَيْنَbetween أعدائِهِhis enemies
حلَّ فيما بَيْنَ أعدائِهِ
وَهْوَwhile he is عَنْfrom أحْبابِهِhis loved ones نازِحُfar away
وَهْوَ عَنْ أحْبابِهِ نازِحُ
He has settled among his enemies,
He makes peace among his enemies
While he is far from his loved ones.
While he separates from his loved ones
أَيُّهاO you القادِحُthe kindler نارَthe fire of الهوىpassion
أَيُّها القادِحُ نارَ الهوى
اصْلَهاburn in it ياO أَيُّهاyou القادِحُthe kindler
اصْلَها يا أَيُّها القادِحُ
O you who kindle the fire of passion,
O you who kindles the fire of passion
Burn in it, O kindler!
Fuel it, O kindler of the fire
