فَعُقبىso the final outcome of كُلِّevery شَيءٍthing نَحنُwe فيهِin it
مِنَfrom الجَمعِthe gathering الكَثيفِdense إِلىto شَتاتِdispersal
So the final fate of everything we are part of
The end of everything we are in
Is to pass from dense gathering to dispersal.
Is from a dense gathering to scattering
وَماand what حُزناهُwe amassed it مِنfrom حلٍّwhat is lawful وَحُرمٍand what is forbidden
يُوَزَّعُis distributed فيamong البَنينِthe sons وَفيand among البَناتِthe daughters
And whatever we amassed, lawful or forbidden,
And our sadness over settlement and deprivation
Is distributed among the sons and daughters,
Is distributed among the sons and daughters
وَفيمَنand among those whom لَمdid not نُؤَهِّلهُمwe deem them worthy بِفلسٍof a copper coin
وَقيمَةِand the value of حَبَّةٍa grain قَبلَbefore المَماتِdeath
And among those we had not deemed worthy of a copper coin
And those we did not prepare with money
Or the value of a grain before death.
Or the value of a seed before death
وَتَنساناand forget us الأَحِبَّةُthe loved ones بَعدَafter عَشرٍten
وَقَدand already صِرناwe have become عِظاماًbones بالِياتِdecaying
And our loved ones forget us after ten,
And the loved ones forget us after ten years
When we have already become decaying bones,
When we have become decaying bones
كَأَنّاas though we لَمdid not نُعاشِرهُمwe kept their company بِوُدٍّwith affection
وَلَمand not يَكُthere was فيهِمُamong them خِلٌّa close friend مُؤاتِcongenial
As though we had never kept their company with affection,
As if we did not live with them in affection
And there had been no congenial friend among them.
Or have an intimate friend among them
