لَكَupon you مِنas a خَليلِfriend
كَمhow many لَكَyou have فيat الإِشراقِsunrise وَالأَصيلِand late afternoon
O Time, fie upon you as a friend!
O Time, how many a friend in dawn and dusk,
How many have you, at sunrise and late afternoon,
How many a gallant slain, you will not make amends!
مِنof صاحِبٍa companion وَماجِدٍand a noble man قَتيلِslain
وَالدَهرُand Time لاnot يَقنَعُis content بِالبَديلِwith a substitute
Of companions and noble men slain!
Nor will you be content with a substitute.
And Time is not content with a substitute.
The matter rests with the Almighty,
وَالأَمرُand the matter فيin ذاكَthat إِلىrests with الجَليلِthe Majestic One
وَكُلُّand every حَيٍّliving being سالِكُtreading السَبيلِthe path
And the matter therein rests with the Majestic One.
And every living soul travels the road.
And every living being treads the path.
