It is shame enough for a man that you see him

fallen from high standing into degradation,

    eager for blameworthy deeds,

devoid of zeal for good deeds.

He gestures with his hand, commanding and forbidding,

to the servants from the head of the carpet.

He believes that musical instruments and amusements

bring about passage over the Sirat.

Indeed, the wretched man has failed and strayed through incapacity,

and his heart has come loose from its suspending cord.
