لَئِنif indeed كانَتِis الدُنياthis world تُعَدُّis deemed نَفيسَةًprecious
فَدارُthen the abode ثَوابِreward اللَهِGod أَعلىloftier وَأَنبَلُand nobler
If indeed this world is deemed precious,
If this world is considered precious,
then the abode of God's reward is loftier and nobler.
The home of God's reward is higher and nobler.
وَإِنand if كانَتِwere الأَبدانُbodies لِلمَوتِfor death أُنشِئَتcreated
فَقَتلُthen the slaying of اِمرِئٍa man بِالسَيفِby the sword فيin the cause of اللَهِGod أَفضَلُbetter
And if bodies were created for death,
If bodies were created for death,
then a man's death by the sword in God's cause is better.
Then being killed in God's way with a sword is better.
وَإِنand if كانَتِis الأَرزاقُsustenance شَيئاًsomething مُقَدَّراًdecreed
فَقِلَّةُthen the lessening of سَعيstriving المَرءِthe man فيfor الرِزقِsustenance أَجمَلُmore fitting
And if sustenance is something decreed,
If sustenances are predestined,
then less striving for one's sustenance is more fitting.
Then striving little for sustenance is more beautiful.
وَإِنand if كانَتِis الأَموالُwealth لِلتَركِto be left behind جَمعُهاits gathering
فَماthen what بالُis the matter with مَتروكٍsomething left behind بِهِwith it المَرءُthe man يَبخَلُis miserly
And if wealth is gathered to be left behind,
If wealth is to be left behind when one dies,
then why is a man miserly with what is to be left behind?
Why then would one be stingy with what he leaves behind?
