أَنا اِبنُ عَلَيِّ الحبرِ مِن آلِ هاشِم

أَنا اِبنُ عَلَيِّ الحبرِ مِن آلِ هاشِم

كَفاني بِهَذا مَفخَراً حينَ أَفخَرُ

كَفاني بِهَذا مَفخَراً حينَ أَفخَرُ

I am the son of Ali, the learned sage, of the House of Hashim.

I am the son of Ali the scholar, of the family of Hashim.

This alone is glory enough for me whenever I boast.

This suffices me as a source of pride when I boast.

وَجَدّي رَسولُ اللَهِ أَكرَمُ مَن مَشى

وَجَدّي رَسولُ اللَهِ أَكرَمُ مَن مَشى

وَنَحنُ سِراجُ اللَهِ في الأَرضِ يزهرُ

وَنَحنُ سِراجُ اللَهِ في الأَرضِ يزهرُ

My grandfather is God’s Messenger, the noblest of all who ever walked.

And my grandfather is God's Messenger, the noblest who ever walked.

And we are God’s lamp, aglow upon the earth.

And we are God's lamp, shining on the earth.

وَفاطِمَة أُمّي سُلالَةُ أَحمَدٍ

وَفاطِمَة أُمّي سُلالَةُ أَحمَدٍ

وَعَمّي يُدعى ذا الجَناحَينِ جَعفَرُ

وَعَمّي يُدعى ذا الجَناحَينِ جَعفَرُ

Fatima is my mother, the offspring of Ahmad.

And Fatimah, my mother, is Ahmad's offspring.

And my uncle is called He of the Two Wings—Ja‘far.

And my uncle Ja'far is called the One with Two Wings.

وَفينا كِتابُ اللَهِ يَنزِلُ صادِقاً

وَفينا كِتابُ اللَهِ يَنزِلُ صادِقاً

وَفينا الهُدى وَالوَحيُ وَالخَيرُ يُذكَرُ

وَفينا الهُدى وَالوَحيُ وَالخَيرُ يُذكَرُ

And in our midst the Book of God descends in truth.

And among us the Book of God descends in truth.

Among us are guidance and revelation, and goodness is proclaimed.

And among us guidance, revelation, and goodness are spoken of.

وَنَحنَ وُلاة الناسِ نَسقي وُلاتنا

وَنَحنَ وُلاة الناسِ نَسقي وُلاتنا

بِكَأسِ رَسولِ اللَهِ ما لَيسَ يُنكَرُ

بِكَأسِ رَسولِ اللَهِ ما لَيسَ يُنكَرُ

We are the people’s leaders; those loyal to us we give to drink

And we are the people's guardians; we give our supporters drink

from the cup of God’s Messenger—this cannot be denied.

From the cup of God's Messenger—something that is not denied.

وَشيعَتُنا في الناسِ أَكرَمُ شيعَةٍ

وَشيعَتُنا في الناسِ أَكرَمُ شيعَةٍ

وَمُبغِضُنا يَومَ القِيامَةِ يَخسَرُ

وَمُبغِضُنا يَومَ القِيامَةِ يَخسَرُ

Our followers are the noblest company among all people.

And our followers are the noblest group among the people.

And whoever hates us shall suffer loss on Resurrection Day.

And whoever hates us will lose on the Day of Resurrection.
