أَفيIs it on السَبخاتِthe salt flats ياO مَغبونُdeluded one تَبنيyou build
أَفي السَبخاتِ يا مَغبونُ تَبني
وَماand not أَبقىhas spared السِباخُthe saline soil عَلىupon الأَساسِthe foundation
وَما أَبقى السِباخُ عَلى الأَساسِ
Do you build on salt flats, O deluded one,
when saline soil spares no foundation?
ذُنوبُكَyour sins جَمَّةٌmany تَترىcome in succession عِظاماًgrievous
ذُنوبُكَ جَمَّةٌ تَترى عِظاماً
وَدَمعُكَand your tears جامِدٌfrozen وَالقَلبُand the heart قاسيhard
وَدَمعُكَ جامِدٌ وَالقَلبُ قاسي
Your sins are many and grievous, coming one after another,
yet your tears are frozen and your heart is hard.
وَأَيّاماًand days عَصَيتَyou disobeyed اللَهَGod فيهاin them
وَأَيّاماً عَصَيتَ اللَهَ فيها
وَقَدand indeed حُفِظَتhave been recorded عَلَيكَagainst you وَأَنتَwhile you are ناسيforgetful
وَقَد حُفِظَت عَلَيكَ وَأَنتَ ناسي
And the days in which you disobeyed God
have indeed been recorded against you, though you forget.
فَكَيفَso how تُطيقُcan you endure يَومَon the Day الدينِof Judgment حَملاًbearing
فَكَيفَ تُطيقُ يَومَ الدينِ حَملاً
لِأَوزارِof the burdens الكَبائِرِof grave sins كَالرَواسيlike firmly rooted mountains
لِأَوزارِ الكَبائِرِ كَالرَواسي
How, then, will you endure, on the Day of Judgment, bearing
the burdens of grave sins, like firmly rooted mountains?
هُوَit is اليَومُthe Day الَّذيwhich لاno وُدَّaffection فيهِin it
هُوَ اليَومُ الَّذي لا وُدَّ فيهِ
وَلاand no نَسَبٌkinship وَلاand no أَحَدٌanyone مُواسيone who consoles
وَلا نَسَبٌ وَلا أَحَدٌ مُواسي
It is the Day on which there is no affection,
nor kinship, nor anyone to offer comfort.
