وَلَمand did not يَمرُرpass بِهِupon him يَومٌa day فَظيعٌdreadful
أَشَدُّmore grievous عَلَيهِto him مِنthan يَومِthe day of الحِمامِdeath
And no dreadful day has come upon him
No day passed more dire for him than the day of trial,
More grievous to him than the day of death.
Though the Day of Reckoning will be more dreadful in its horrors,
وَيَومُand the day of الحَشرِthe gathering أَفظَعُmore dreadful مِنهُthan it هَولاًin terror
إِذاwhen وَقَفَstood الخَلائِقُthe creatures بِالمَقامِat the station
And the Day of Gathering surpasses it in terror,
When all creatures will stand at their places,
When all creatures stand at the station.
Many an oppressor will remain abject,
فَكَمso how many مِنof ظالِمٍan oppressor يَبقىremains ذَليلاًabased
وَمَظلومٍand a wronged person تَشَمَّرَgirded himself لِلخِصامِfor dispute
So how many an oppressor will remain abased,
While the oppressed will stand ready for contention,
And how many a wronged person will gird himself for dispute;
And people who were destitute in the world,
وَشَخصٍand a person كانَwas فيin الدُنياthis world فَقيراًpoor
تَبَوَّأَsettled in مَنزِلَthe abode of النُجبِthe noble ones الكِرامِthe generous
And how many a person who was poor in this world
Will take their places among the honored nobles.
Will settle in the abode of the noble and generous.
But God's pardon is greater than all things,
وَعَفوُand the pardon of اللَهِGod أَوسَعُvaster كُلّevery شَيءٍthing
تَعالىexalted is اللَهُGod خَلّاقُCreator of الأَنامِall creatures
And God's pardon is vaster than everything;
Exalted is God, Creator of mankind.
Exalted is God, Creator of all creatures.
