مَحَتerased آياتِthe signs of رَسمَيهِits two outlines
So no ruined trace has grieved me; already
No drawing left its mark on me
the signs of its two outlines had been erased
Or wiped away its lines from me.

فيin بوغاءِpowdery soil قاعَيهِits two flat expanses
by a sweeping wind that rolled two trailing hems
A yellow one whose train did crawl
in the powdery soil of its two flat expanses.
Through muddy tracks so slimily.

Howling, bitterly cold, coming wave after wave
A howdah, O how intricate
over the matted fabric of its two garments;
Its saddlecloth's embroidery!
وَولّاجٌand one pressing in repeatedly مِنَfrom among المُزنِthe rainclouds
دَناdrew near نَوءُrain-bearing star-season سِماكَيهِits two Simāk stars
and one pressing in from among the rainclouds—
A stallion of unmixed breed
the rain-season of its two Simāk stars drew near.
Whose neigh is shrill and high.
أَتىit came مُثعَنجرَpouring copiously الوَدقِthe rain

It came with rain pouring in torrents,
He came all sleek through falcons' claws
with a lavish downpour through its two openings.
With generosity in his veins.
وَقَدand indeed أَحمَدproved praiseworthy بَرقاهُits two lightning flashes
فَلاso no ذَمٌّblame لِبَرقَيهِfor its two lightning flashes
And its two lightning flashes proved praiseworthy,
I praised his lightning—no reproach
so no blame attaches to its two flashes.
Against his blinding light remains.
وَقَدand indeed جَلَّلَenveloped رَعداهُits two thunderclaps
فَلاso no ذَمٌّblame لِرَعدَيهِfor its two thunderclaps
And its two thunderclaps enveloped it,
His thunder I proclaimed sublime-
so no blame attaches to its two thunderclaps.
No fault in its loud roar obtains.

Gushing with thunder, pouring in torrents,
The bursting thunder when it dons
when it let down its two girdles.
Its clouds' enveloping terrains

لِبَينونَةِbecause of the departure of أَهليهِits people
So it became effaced and desolate
Rains down upon a desert, bare,
because its people had departed.
Exposing all its parents' stains.

A youth—the All-Merciful honored
A youth who honored well the womb
his two grandfathers with purification—

the lordly moon clothed him
The moon itself bedecked him in
in light from its two splendors.
The brilliant garb it entertains,

And I have made some of my verse firm,
And I have wrought in verse my love
and set its two metrical measures aright.
And disciplined its metered chains.
