وَحَلَّ بِهِ مُلِمّاتُ الزَوالِ
For his heedlessness has become delusion,
For his pomp has now become vanity,
And the calamities of passing away have befallen him.
And the shadows of departure have descended upon him.

And he was stripped of the clothes he had worn,
He has been stripped of the clothes he wore,
And afterward clothed in garments of departure.
And clothed in raiments of transition.

And after riding horses in arrogance,
After riding horses aimlessly,
He is borne gently between the necks of men
He is led between the necks of men,

To a grave where he is left alone;
To a grave he will be left in alone,
His relatives and retainers have withdrawn from him.
Avoided by kin and comrades.

He forsook the one who left him an inheritance and turned away,
He has parted from his inheritor and turned away,
Nor did any glorious achievement of high distinction shield him.
And the glory of status did not veil him.
